Standardised Waste Management Across Multiple Sites

A regional contractor asked Lswp Properties Ltd to design and roll out a consistent waste management approach across a number of live construction sites. Existing practices varied from job to job, making costs harder to track and recycling rates difficult to measure. We began by reviewing each site, mapping typical waste streams and collection points, then introducing a standard set-up using clearly labelled skips and containers for timber, metals, inert arisings, plasterboard and mixed residual waste. Collection frequencies were agreed with licensed carriers so skips were changed on time without blocking access or disrupting works.

Site teams received simple, practical guidance on segregation, signage and record keeping, supported by regular inspections and photographs. Duty of care paperwork and waste transfer notes were centralised, giving the contractor clearer visibility of volumes, routes and recycling rates. Over the first phase of the rollout, sites reported tidier compounds, fewer overflowing skips and improved compliance with health and safety expectations. The system is now used as a standard template for new projects, with Lswp providing ongoing advice where programmes, locations or waste streams change.
